Nowhere in the scriptures are the chains or their seizure mentioned as part of God’s plan.
Every chain proposes in its form to eliminate free will by binding the freedom of the accused. They are heavy and very difficult to release. Coartan day and night. Mining the moral and forces. Just by noticing its weight, hope runs away, with its single sight, faith wavers. In the end more than in charity, we abound in despair when we see our sad situation. Normally when someone has worn chains in a prison, it has not been mercy or mercy something that abounds in their environment. There is no more forceful blow to our mind than to carry chains on hands and feet. It produces this image of the chains, the rejoicing in the observer that contemplates how the freedom of an individual in its links evaporates.
The provincial historical archive of Cuenca, was in the antiquity a jail of the inquisición. On one of its walls there is a sonnet written by one of the prisoners. Here we can see the effect of chains on a man’s soul. In this case, sure of his innocence.
My grief and feeling is so great
in this sad and rigorous prison,
absent from my children and my wife

The links of their everlasting chains
The battle for destruction or control of agency has not stopped since its inception. It is a constant in history, in one way or another. Controlling the agency of man represents a source of power greater than the domain of the atom. And we can see that battle , more and more like that of the heavens, in our surroundings. Far from the iron chains and the metal traps, we approach the old struggle through chains in thought and words.
Nephi, who experienced the bindings on his wrists twice, knew that feeling well.
He describes the chains of our time, in “that day when I shall proceed to do a marvelous work among them …” ( 2 Nephi 29: 1Therefore, for us, his prophecies are revealing and of great value. Let’s see three of its links.
Link of fury
“ that day shall he rage in the hearts of the children of men, and stir them up to anger against that which is good” ( 2 Nephi 28:20 )
Nephi distinguishes today between violence in general and its special increase towards what is good . Whereas “whatsoever is good cometh from God, and whatsoever is evil cometh from the devil” ( Alma 5:40 )
We see the agitation against the good in the general hostility towards his commandments. He also made institutions that have accompanied us since ancient times. Nations, marriage and family.
This link prevents us from understanding that the goodness or badness of some things is not a convenience, nor is it relative. His strong influence on our mind promises us more freedom, when, however, it limits thought to not going beyond the circle of personal interest. Therefore this link, proclaiming freedom, adds us in solitudewhen breaking the family. Extending the word marriage, results in its disappearance . Enhancing the singular, it breaks the equality and union of the nations.
And all this fostered in the raucous speech of the furor against the inheritances received. The language used is resounding, with a contemptuous, frowning gesture. Of pompous gesticulation, tone of harangue, angry and offended. Not stuck with reasons and arguments, but with some immaculate words, like equality and other words like heteropatriarchy. Giving the illusion of depth and truth. But as a whole a reiteration of nothingness.
The person surrounded by this dominant language has a great interest in mimicking him. Instead of analyzing its construction in the landscape, it does not recognize that it is “a dark and dreary wilderness..” ( 1 Nephi 8:47 )
From the accident to the cause
Being that the discord towards good or between parents and children or between husband and wife has always existed. Now he has been endowed with discourse and theory. Aggravated crowds ride in new words and stories as heteropatriarchy, abortion, gender, parity, blaming the family, religion and nations the source of their ills.
That day of which Nephi prophesied is ours and these are the links.
“And others will he pacify, and lull them away into carnal security, that they will say: All is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well … “ ( 21 )
We can see that in the same chain there are links as different as enrage and pacify. And it is that Satan is able to forge iron chains with silk threads.

The pacifism of which Nephi speaks, is not that of the nonviolence practiced by Gandhi in favor of the independence of India. It is the submission to the discourse that hides the disaster. It consists in not taking on the task of discerning the trees and the clouds of our present, to really consider the time that will be done tomorrow. We reject the plea of Moroni “For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge” ( Moroni 7; 16 ) By not discerning, we avoid that reality bothers us to have a good day.
Therefore the numbness speaks to us of new ways of coexistence, instead of the destruction of the family. Of new relationships of couple instead of destruction of marriage. Using words as empowerment not in noble causes, but for confrontation.
“O that ye would awake; awake from a deep sleep, yea, even from the sleep of hell, and shake off the awful chains by which ye are bound, which are the chains which bind the children of men, that they are carried away captive down to the eternal gulf of misery and woe “ ( 2 Nephi 1:13 )
Link of the flattery
” And behold, others he flattereth away, and telleth them there is no hell; and he saith unto them: I am no devil, for there is none—and thus he whispereth in their ears, until he grasps them with his awful chains, from whence there is no deliverance. ” ( 2 Nephi 28:22 )
In this scripture, the sequence of the plan of salvation is broken, ” For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things” ( 2 Nephi 2:11 ).
To eliminate Satan or evil from the plan of salvation, leaves us without opposition in all the things and without need of expiation to save us from the the grasp of this awful monster; yea, that monster, death and hell, ( 2 Nephi 9:10 ) that Jacob talks about.
So that way he whispers in your ear. The words whispered in the ear, not only communicate but caress us and numb our judgment.
We are no longer duty, we do not consider what is right or wrong. But what suits me? The new totems are used to justify our behavior. Therefore, it is reasoned with abortion, in terms of independence and the right to decide. Obviating the rights of the unborn. Taking the concept of empowerment, as the scalpel of behavior. Adapting the laws to the demand and not to justice.
Therefore the ” I am not the devil because there is not” we see in there is no absolute truth. All moral concepts are the result of the situation. It is considered good and bad evolutionary conventions. Useful at a given moment. By changing our environment, for example with scientific and technological progress, we have to adapt to survive suppressing the devil and above all God. The result is a new moral, that is none.
The end of a world
The evolution of a community of no more than fifty people, as was the Lehi family in an advanced nation, is for me an example of intelligence and foresight. The Mosiah I family line , Benjamin and Mosiah II , performed that miracle. Why in 30 AD did they become tribes? It was the involution of a culture that already knew the separation of powers.
I speak of this in ” Ukronia for the Book of Mormon ” but in 3 Nephi 7: 5 we read “all this iniquity had come upon the people because they did yield themselves unto the power of Satan.” And their power consists in their chains. The furor, flattery and numbness.
Sometimes I have the impression (just that) of something strange. There is a gross domestic product (GDP) of knowledge in the world, that is, everything we know. The per capita income for each does not vary through history. The more knowledge is generated, the more garbage accompanies it, so that the GDP of knowledge of a medieval farmer in relation to his time, is the same as an inhabitant in relation to our time.
The Nephites destroyed “… the regulations of the government were destroyed, because of the secret combination of the friends and kindreds of those who murdered the prophets.” ( 3 Nephi 7: 6 ) I do not observe the same, in our case, there is no destruction . But if I see a great transformation of our society that little by little changes the laws. And laws make up the conscience of nations. What I do see is a general numbness in our direction and a lot of fury towards the good. A furor strengthened and justified by new doctrines intensely propagated.
The last resort
However, there is a hidden difference between the transformation of the Nephite nation and our days. Saving differences in size and result.
“Now behold, there was no man among them save he had much family and many kindreds and friends; therefore their tribes became exceedingly great.” ( 3 Nephi 7: 4 ) They broke the rules of government, but not their families. We are transforming laws and breaking families. But this fact is hidden by the link of flattery, by numbness. And talking about it awakens the fury of the politically correct. The new abominable church.
This abominable church of the politically correct, indicates as backward to anyone who claims the patriarchal order. Damn word. The story has settled to destroy the previous order from which the present welfare has come. And they tell us that paradise is coming. They confuse accidents and causes. In this new reign, fewer and fewer children are born, due to the economy and lack of conciliation, they tell us. More abortions, for the greater empowerment of people. Less and less marriages, there is more freedom to argue.
Promiscuity is liberation and discipline is imposition. Authority is despotism and anarchy liberation.
Disagreeing what is accepted is seen almost as a crime. Therefore we must go to silence or ascribe to the flattery.
The saints will no longer go out to the west or to the desert ” the gathering together upon the land of Zion, and upon her stakes, may be for a defense, and for a refuge from the storm” ( D & C 115: 6 )
in the year 31
“… in the thirty and first year that they were divided into tribes, every man according to his family, kindred and friends; nevertheless they had come to an agreement that they would not go to war one with another “ ( 3 Nephi 7:14 ).
The last Nephites had their last resort, their families. That was enough to avoid chaos. However before a collapse in our world (which will never come we will always be OK!) What will we have left?
Will we write on a wall those words of someone in chains?
